Mother Lassing Results

Ardea Golf & CC hosted the 2024 Mother Lassing and we were very excited to play the ‘new’ course. Ardea CC has recently undergone a total renovation with an $11 million investment in all of the facilities including the golf course.  Along with the renovation project is also the new name Ardea Country Club (previously Eastlake Woodlands CC).   

Members played the South Course, considered by some to be the easier of the two Ardea courses but it tested our skills off the tee with numerous tree-lined fairways.  At least half of the holes have penalty areas where you are likely to see the resident gators.  Accuracy, more so than length, is key to a good round on the South Course.  The fast, tricky greens require a deft hand with the putter and a lot of patience. 

Every year we play the Mother Lassing tournament to honor Mary Brady Lassing.  According to old documents, Mary started playing golf in 1921 after moving to St Petersburg. Mary was known as the “Lady of Golf’ at the time. This event has become a tradition for the WCWGA and it is the only WCWGA Net event.

Traditionally half of the field are winners at The Mother Lassing Tournament. In addition, there is an overall Gross and a Runner up winner who were presented with beautiful wine glasses with the WCWGA logo in addition to cash prizes.  All winners at this event got cash prizes. We also had closest to the pins for all flights. Golf balls were donated by the pro shop for closest to the pin prizes. 

I would like to thank The Mother Lassing committee Karen Leash, Jackie Brown and WCWGA Representative Susan Camisasca who did an amazing job for a successful event. Their team work, dedication and organization made it enjoyable for everyone.
