The second annual West Coast Solheim Cup Match Play Tournament was a success with 56 players battling it out as the Red and Blue Teams for bragging rights. The forecasted rain didn’t materialize, and it was a beautiful day. A special thanks to Pat Rogers and Suzie McRae for coordinating it
as well as the Tampa Palms Team: Head Golf Professional Kevin Kinney and his staff who rank ordered the handicaps to provide even teams along with Pat and Suzie handled the last-minute changes; Greens Superintendent Troy Wetherington, General Manager David Direnzo and dining room manager Nick Wooley. A delicious buffet lunch included salads, and excellent entrees of chicken and salmon with great cheesecake for dessert. The course was in great condition, having just held a PGA event the prior weekend. Approach shots were tough with firm greens; you needed some shot making on water holes and you better keep your drives in the fairway! 😊 Half of us sliced or hooked balls into the trees. The format was 4 ball match play on the front nine and individual match play on the back nine. 1 Point was awarded for the four ball and 1 point for each of the individual matches. And the Winners were …… The Blue Team 23 ½ to 18 ½ for the Red Team. Red team captain Leslie Roberts handed over cash to the Blue Team captain Becky Miles.
Winners each received $10 and a West Coast ball marker.
