The WCWGA Championship at Avila Golf & Country Club will truly be one to remember. Avila Golf & CC, known for its challenging layout, opened in 1980 and designed by Jack Nicklaus. The stunning course provided a perfect stage for an outstanding tournament, combining beauty with exceptional playing conditions. The course was in pristine condition, with immaculate fairways and beautifully maintained greens that tested every aspect of the game.
The competition extended across six flights with sixty five WCWGA members. We proudly recognized almost 50% of the field as winners. This reflects both the depth of talent at our club and our commitment to celebrating the achievements of many players.
Beyond the competition, this championship was a true celebration of camaraderie and sportsmanship. The support and spirit shown by all participants made this event even more meaningful. Having four past presidents in attendance, Pat Bethune (2007-2009), Becky Miles (2015-2017), Pat Rogers (2020-2022) and Leslie Roberts (2022-2024) and sixteen Club Representatives made the occasion especially memorable.
A special thank you to WCWGA Club Representative Anne Stafford for hosting this traditional event. We greatly appreciate her hospitality and the significant effort required to ensure a successful event.
We also would like to extend our appreciation and thank you to Chris Slatery, Avila Head Golf Professional, and Randy Rover, Director golf Professional, Cornie Corbett, WCWGA member for many years, and volunteers at Avila Country Club. Your dedication and attention to detail ensured this championship was a tremendous success.
Congratulations to our Overall Champion, Pat Rogers for an exceptional performance, and to Runner-Up Julie Treadwell for a strong finish. Julie also won The Betty Kerby award putting contest. Julie had the lowest number of putts over the two days event with a remarkable 60 putts.
This is a tournament we will remember for years to come.
Congratulations to all winners!
